FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 2017 MARGATE SOUL FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FULL LINE UP
‘We regret to announce that due to unfortunate unforeseen circumstances Candi Staton has had to cancel her appearance at Margate Soul Weekender. She hopes to return to the UK and make it up to her fans as soon as possible.’
Now that Margate Soul Festival is only weeks away, the team behind this unique event are preparing to deliver another weekend packed full of soulful goodness.
Over the weekend of the 4th to the 6th of August, Margate will host over 100 DJ’s across 10 venues and feature live performances from an all-star international line up. Appearing on the new Red Stripe Sunset Stage and the Main Hall on Saturday 5th August will be ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, Gwen Dickey of ROSE ROYCE, MARC EVANS, TREVOR NELSON and PAUL TROUBLE ANDERSON.
If that is not enough to satisfy any soul palette, it continues on Carnival Sunday the 6th with Jazz funk legends THE BLACKBYRDS, Latin Soul & Salsa stalwarts JOE BATAAN and GERARDO FRISINA with an exclusive MSF performance by MF ROBOTS formed by JAN KINCAID founder of the Brit Jazz & Funk band BRAND NEW HEAVIES.
Our very own TOM GLIDE will showcase his brand new album DIVAS GOT SOUL with guest vocalists SEL, CHIDI & HIL ST SOUL. Singer songwriter GREG BLACKMAN will also be appearing.
Added to this impressive lineup, will be free activities taking place across the Old Town from midday Saturday & Sunday, including for the very first time a Spoken Word, Open Mic and Workshop corner located at the all new Beet Bar. ‘Spoken @ Margate Soul Festival’, will feature some of the biggest names to headline Margate’s Soul Food & Street Sonnets poetry night.
“The festival has gone from strength to strength, in spite of the tough times Margate has experienced, and continues to grow. Our festival partner Mi-Soul Radio, broadcasting on DAB, online and through mobile APP, has been a welcome voice projecting a consistently positive image of our town.” states Eli Thompson, the festival founder.
