NEWS RELEASE: A Great British Pie for Blackheath’s British Oak @BritOakPub_SE3

A pie and a pint is widely celebrated as the perfect British pub feast and now the recently refurbished British Oak in Blackheath is offering this winning combination under one roof, thanks to a mouth-watering partnership with expert pie makers Pieminister.

Many know Pieminister’s pies from their permanent stall at London’s world famous Borough Market and the British Oak is the first venue in Blackheath to stock the full range. This means that – as well as being home to an impressive array of cask Ales – the British Oak on the Old Dover Road now serves a full multi-award winning pie menu seven days a week.

Punters can choose from Pieminister’s legendary range of 11 classics including:

  1. moo pie: British beef steak and English ale

  2. chicken of aragon pie: free range British chicken and bacon with tarragon

  3. heidi pie: Somerset goats’ cheese and red onion with sweet potato (Vegetarian Society Approved)

moo & blue pie: British beef steak and aged Stilton

Every one of these pies won much-coveted stars in the 2014 Great Taste Awards; regarded by many to be the ‘Oscars’ of the food world.

In addition to Pieminister’s classic range look out for seasonal specials including Pieminister’s Christmas selection which will be available from November:

  1. Mistlemoo pie: British beef and free range British prosciutto with Aged Long Clawson Stilton and chestnuts in a rich red wine and port sauce

  2. merry berry pie: free range British turkey and bacon with roast parsnips, sherry, red wine and cranberries

  3. christingle pie: Cheddar cheese and honey-roast parsnips with leeks and chestnuts (Vegetarian Society Approved)

  4. deer santa pie: British venison and free range British bacon with red wine and puy lentils

Pieminister also offers a trio of topless pies. Perfect for people looking for something lighter, they’re lightly baked with a seed and herb crumb top in a thin pastry case.

All Pieminister pies are served at the British Oak with delicious buttery mash, minted mushy peas and rich red wine gravy. Customers can also try Pieminister’s famous ‘mothership’ – a pie and all the sides topped with crisp shallots and West Country cheddar. In addition to these traditional pie accompaniments, the menu also offers slaws as well as Pieminister’s Great Taste Award winning No 10 Pie Chutney. And for those looking for a bar snack to enjoy with a pint, Pieminister’s 100% free range British sausage rolls and pork scratchings are well worth a try.

Proprietors Peter and Janet say “The British Oak is a proper British pub so it seems fitting to showcase the best British pies we can find alongside our ales. The two go together like……well a pie and a pint….and with London being the home of traditional pie and mash we think they’ll go down a treat!

A traditional Victorian establishment complete with a striking wrought ironwork façade, Janet and Peter have been careful to retain the pub’s character and charm, inside and out. The front bar is welcoming and open with a great selection of cask ales and bottled craft beers and ciders. Guest beers are locally brewed and selected from the likes of the Meantime Brewing Company, in nearby Greenwich.

The back bar (where you’ll find the pies!) is a more cosy affair and leads through to a beautiful and spacious garden complete with its own coop of chickens.

Known for its friendly staff and regular live music nights (it hosts the Blackheath Folk Club every Tuesday night) the British Oak has the local community at the heart of everything it offers. And with a well-stocked bar and award winning pie menu, this is the sort of pub that every neighbourhood deserves.

Open seven days a week, pop in to the British Oak for a morning coffee, quick pie and pint for lunch or a full-blown pie feast with friends.

Pieminister, the creation of brothers-in-law Tristan Hogg and Jon Simon, was founded in Bristol in 2003 to create a range of pies ‘made with fine ingredients you can see, taste and smell’. This vision helped them revolutionise the British pie industry and they have become the nation’s most trusted pie brand.

Ten years on, Pieminister is still owned and run by the original founders and makes all its pies in-house in their Bristol kitchens. Every pie in the classic range has won a prestigious Great Taste Award for excellent taste and quality and Pieminister is the only national pie brand to use only 100% free range British meat. All Pieminister’s meat-free pies are Vegetarian Society Approved.

Pieminister is stocked in some of the UK’s finest pubs and food halls as well as the brand’s own highly successful and expanding estate of pie (and pie and cider) restaurants and farmers’ market stalls.

Credited as the brand responsible for Britain’s current pie revolution, they reinvented the pie for a younger crowd. Ten years after making its debut at Glastonbury, Pieminister is still the go-to food stall at the UK’s leading music events and a growing number of private events and weddings too.
