Being invited to dine at the Lanes of London was a sweet surprise. Formerly 140 Park Lane the fairly intimate yet chic space houses the perfect way to experience the cities swish, casual-dining scene, offering four of it’s most famous roads and the street food typically found there. Graze, share, mix and match the all day dining menu choosing from dishes found on Brick Lane, Kingsland Road, Portobello Road and Edgeware Road. We tucked into the Brick Lane favourite, Butter Chicken, (which happens to be the chefs fathers’ own recipe) with Cumin Rice and Crispy Paranthas that simply melted on the tongue after the first crispy bite; followed by yummy Roasted Bone Marrow with Horseradish Cream and Beef Brisket Sliders; a typical street food favourite from the eclectic café culture of Portobello.
Accompanying these on the menu, a quintessential British selection; Smoked Ham Hock Fritters, Steak or Fish and Chips etc. of which we sampled the Half Pint Prawns served with Pumpernickel Bread and the Crispy Soft Shell Crab, served with a Chili, Apple and Fennel Salad. Delicious.
The Dessert menu was equally interesting and flavoursome. With a choice of Jammdy Dodgers (Home Baked Shortbread, Strawberry Jam, Strawberry Liqueur and strawberries and cream), Pimms Trifle, East India Dock Ginger Cake and the delightful Sticky Toffee Pudding Ice Cream – our highlight all from a post-card designed, dessert menu of which the waitress offers to post for you when you leave! Nice touch!
The impressive cocktail list offers an inspiring choice of fruity, fragrant pick-me-ups, with most ingredients prepared in house, such as; The Sri Lankan Arrack Punch and the intense Martahini, which contains their Tahini infused Grey Goose Vodka and you simply have to try the after dinner classic, Coffee Martini with a cinnamon twist.
It’s safe to say our palettes were taken on a journey from start to finish. Each dish complimented the next, a feat in itself, the staff were friendly, knowledgable and attentive and we left the historic building full and very, very happy.
If the purpose was for the bar to appear seemingly separate from the Marriot hotel, then in my opinion they have succeeded.
A Mayfair must.
